Student of the Week
As part of our All About Me unit, we will celebrate a “student of the week” in our classroom. The highlighted student will be the center of activities in our morning meeting and during our Language Arts time. As part of his/her “showcase,” each child is asked to bring in a poster with photos, drawings, or magazine clippings to share. With my assistance, students will present it to the class. Others will respond to the mini-presentation with thoughtful questions and comments. A small bulletin board outside of our classroom is designated to display the projects.
Your child will likely require assistance, so please help your child to gather and/or create the following items:
A written caption should accompany each artifact. Students are encouraged to write them, (or a portion of them) using invented spelling. You are welcome to help your child sound words out and your correct spelling can be written underneath your child’s writing if it is difficult for others to read.
In order to make sure that your child’s pictures and drawings fit on our bulletin board, mount his/her pictures, drawings, and captions, to a single poster board. Please do not send loose pictures, toys, etc. Your child will see a sample of what the project should look like as I will be the first “student” featured from our class. My sample will be on display for a few weeks on our bulletin board, and I will also post a photo on our Weebly to help you guide your kids to success. Take a look if you are unsure of the guidelines mentioned above. You might learn something new about me or my family from it!
During your child’s special week, you (or a relative or family friend) are invited to come in and read your child’s favorite book to our class. If you are interested in coming in to read, please contact me the week before your child’s week to schedule a time that is convenient for all.
The calendar of assigned weeks is attached. Students are listed in alphabetical order by last name, and have been assigned a week between October and April. Like the What I Can Write About… project for Writing. I hope you enjoy working on this project with your child. As always, feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns!
